    FEATURES

The family live in the West Wing of Thirlestane Castle while the East Wing and Courtyard have been stunningly converted into 5 luxury apartments.  There is so much to see and do in the Scottish Borders and Thirlestane Castle is a magnificent base to have whilst exploring.  There is not only the countryside of the Borders to enjoy but also the bright lights of Edinburgh which are only 50 minutes away by car.

The lands which Thirlestane Castle sits on have been owned by the Maitland family since the 13th Century.  The central part of the present castle was completed in 1590, remodeled in the 1670s and in the 1840s it was enlarged and elaborated on to compete with other grand country estates of the time.   This was a time when entertaining on a grand scale was very much ‘in vogue’ and Thirlestane was built onto so that it could accommodate extra guests and their servants.
