RODEL HOUSE

Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides

From its inception of the restoration process, the exterior and interior design have been guided by reference to the island; its land and seascapes, its weather, its living culture and its history.  The result is not disembodied ‘luxury’, but a building ‘of its place’ that adheres to the principles of elegant simplicity, comfort and taste.

AT A GLANCE

Rodel House, with its own impressive harbour and walled garden, and a prospect across the sea to the Isle of Skye and beyond, occupies an unrivalled position on the most historically significant and naturally blessed site on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Built in 1781 by Captain Alexander MacLeod of the redoubtable MacLeods of Harris and Dunvegan, it is also deeply embedded in the life of the island and to this day retains an intrinsic connection to its place.   Over its nearly 250 years, Rodel House has served as a storehouse, private residence, fishing lodge and latterly, a hotel.  However, time and circumstance have not been kind to this once noble place, and the present proprietors, recognising its unique status were driven by the impulse to rescue something of great historic and aesthetic value.  By restoring the house to its deserved eminence, something beautiful could be created for Harris and its guests.

    FEATURES

Rodel provides a ‘way in’ for guests, whether they are ‘travellers with a purpose’, familiar with the island and wanting to interact with it at a deeper level, or those who are drawn to a refuge where the attraction of undisturbed serenity in the company of dear friends is irresistible.

The house serves at all times of the year as the still centre from which to witness the spectacle of the Outer Hebrides at its most impressive. The crystal clear light and the howling gales of winter, the eruption of Spring and the proliferation of the seabirds, the charm of the Summer with the frolicking of seals and otters in the harbour and the drawing in of the nights by the peat fire in the Autumn.

Would you like to stay in a Scottish country house but you’re not sure where to start? Why not get in touch with us and we will organize a fabulous vacation for you.

    WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

“Jonathan, With appreciation for having attended to us so skillfully. Our time in Scotland has been something we will never forget, in large measure because of your organisation. Many thanks.”

“LTR provided their consultancy services to us at Auchterarder House from October 2020 when we had just started opening for high end rentals.  They exposed us to the US market, which was an area where we had little or no contacts, and have effectively increased our bookings and developed our presence there.  They continue to provide valuable ‘ad hoc’ advice and we would have no hesitation in recommending them to other owners in similar situations.”
