Saint-Emilion

Saint Emilion is a delightful, medieval village in the region of Bordeaux.

It has a long and illustrious history and harmoniously mixes fine wineries, beautiful architecture and monuments.  From the 9th-19th Century the soil was mined and the solid ochre limestone that was extracted was used to build the village.  Now there are 200 km of underground galleries which were used during WWII, for the people of Saint Emilion to hide their wine from the Germans.  Saint Emilion owes much of the success of it’s world famous wines to the soil diversity and the micro climate of the area.

Medoc

Medoc, a district of Bordeaux, has about 1600 wine growers in the region.

Some are small, modest family concerns and some are much larger.  The prestigious wine villages of Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estephe are home to chateaux that produce some of the most expensive wines in the world.

Pessac-Leognan

The Pessac-Leognan region of Bordeaux is on the left bank of the River Garonne.

Unlike most of the Bordeaux appellations, Pessac-Leognan is equally well known for both it’s red and white wine although red is still the most predominant.  The four main producers are Chateau Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, Laville Haut-Brion and Pape Clement.

The ‘terroir’ in Pessac-Leognan is the best in the region and similar to those of Medoc.
